The Making of my newest Hip Hop music release: "Prey" (featuring Duke Newcomb)

Hip Hop, Music, New Music Release, Rap Music

Rome certainly was NOT built in a day, and a good artist knows that it can take time to perfect a project. But, that being said, it doesn't usually take almost a decade to complete one song.

Unless you are Duke Newcomb and Nickie P.

Harlin "Duke" Newcomb has been a dear friend of mine for many years. He is the founder of The Dojo, a monthly Hip Hop open mic event in Ann Arbor, MI and he is also a fellow member of the Hip Hop crew The Seven Chakraz (7C). Duke and I have done several collaborative projects together and have shared countless stages over the years. Of all the projects that we have worked on over the years, none can quite compare to this track.

First, the context of this song is unlike anything we have ever done before. We usually find ourselves suited to your typical party track, or the ever-coveted 'rising-up-like-the-Phoenix' power ballad. But this song tells a dark story of danger, deceit, and death as told by two jaded young people who have unquestionable instability and have completely reached their brink.

As if time doesn't already show you how deep the roots of friendship run between the Duke and myself, you can certainly feel the love in our conversation. Tune in to Episode #3 of the S.O.S. blog as Duke Newcomb and we talk about our writing process, reminisce about the good old days, and relive the experience of recording "Prey".
